Consortium of Jerusalem University College

Over 70 accredited colleges, universities, and seminaries are members of the Consortium of Associated Schools of Jerusalem University College. Students from consortium schools have the opportunity to participate in semester-abroad or short-term programs of study that transfer into their degree programs at their home institution. Our consortium schools treat JUC as an extension campus of their own institution.

Benefits of Membership

Apart from the obvious benefit of an academically-rigorous and cross-cultural overseas study program for your students, there are also the following specific benefits.

  • Visiting Professor Program: As openings are available, your faculty have the opportunity to participate in our visiting professor program. In exchange for free room and board on JUC’s campus for the visiting professor and his or her immediate family, your faculty member teaches one course that is in, or that compliments, the curriculum of our normal semester program. In doing so, the visiting professor gains a home base from which he or she can pursue sabbatical projects or other research interests in Jerusalem. The visiting professor and his or her immediate family are able to participate in JUC’s semester courses and field studies at a nominal charge. They are also encouraged to share in the normal student life activities of the semester, including the weekly Shabbat meal and vespers service.
  • Faculty Incentive Programs: Your faculty can benefit from two enrollment-based incentive programs:
    1. For every six (6) students from your school who are currently enrolled for the semester program at JUC, or who have been enrolled as semester students during the last four semesters, one of your faculty members is eligible to participate in a JUC short-term program free of charge, including international airfare if they use the JUC-recommended travel agency.
    2. For every fifteen (15) paying students from your school who are currently enrolled in a JUC short-term program, or who have attended a JUC short-term program in the last three years, one of your faculty may join a JUC short-term program of their choice at no charge, including international airfare if they use the JUC-recommended travel agency.
  • Study Abroad Program Development: Although JUC offers short-term programs with standard curricula, you have the opportunity to partner with us to create special short-term programs that fit the specific interests and needs of your students and faculty.
  • Priority Status: Students enrolled in your school receive priority status in admissions and scholarships over other applications made to JUC’s semester-abroad program.
  • Enrollment Status: Your students remain enrolled at your institution, treating JUC as an extension campus under our contractual agreement. As such, they are available for to receive funding, other than Title IV funding, from your school as per your school’s policies and procedures.
  • Board Membership: Members of JUC’s Consortium of Associated Schools have the privilege of electing representatives to JUC’s board of directors. The board includes one three-year termed position for a representative from a consortium seminary or graduate school, and two three-year termed positions for representatives from a consortium college or university. The Academic Affairs Committee of JUC’s board of directors is composed of the persons who occupy these three positions, together with a permanent board member who is a faculty member of a consortium school acting as chair, and the president of JUC as an ex officio member. This committee is responsible for overseeing the academic integrity of JUC and ensuring that JUC’s programs of study meet the needs of students enrolled in consortium schools. It is expected that persons filling these positions will actively represent and promote JUC study programs at their home schools.
  • Annal Meeting: Your school becomes a voting member of JUC’s Consortium of Associated Schools and is able to exercise that privilege during the consortium’s annual meeting. Your school also can exercise its right to consult with and advise JUC at any time, and agrees to stand ready to be consulted by the board or administration of JUC as the need to do so may arise.
  • School Representative: At each member school, an official representative is appointed who functions as the liaison between JUC and their school. This representative carries the responsibilities and benefits of actively promoting JUC programs at their school, aiding conversations between JUC, prospective students and their own schools administrations, and advising JUC’s board and administration in ways that are mutually beneficial to the missions and tasks of both institutions.

Membership Criteria

JUC’s Consortium of Associated Schools forms the basis for the accreditation of JUC’s high academic standards. For this reason, all of the schools that are members of the consortium must be accredited by the appropriate accrediting agencies in their home countries.

Schools in the United States and Canada must be accredited either by one of the regional accrediting bodies or professionally (Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada, ATS, Association for Biblical Higher Education, ABHE or Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools, TRACS). Non-North American schools must be accredited according to the nationally accepted accreditation standards of their country or region, such as the Asian Association of Theological Schools, ATA.

All member schools theological beliefs, creeds or statements of faith should be compatible with that of the National Association of Evangelicals statement of faith.

Schools become members of the consortium by entering into a contractual agreement with Jerusalem University College. This agreement outlines the obligations of each institution within the consortium relationship. Schools submit annual consortium member dues, currently $250 per year.

Consortium member schools agree to promote the course offerings of JUC in the catalogs and calendars, although they may substitute their own course number equivalencies and agree to treat academic credit earned at JUC as their own.

Schools agree to keep the student enrolled at their own institution while studying at JUC and under their own guidelines process any financial aid or awards the student may normally be eligible to receive.

Membership Application Package

Should your school desire membership in JUC’s Consortium of Associated Schools, you may download the application package in Adobe PDF format or, if you prefer, receive a printed copy from JUC’s North American office. The package details the responsibilities of the member school and its appointed representative.

An application fee of $250 is required. The completed application is sent to the Membership Committee of the JUC board of directors for approval.
