Course Description
This course assumes no prior knowledge of Hebrew and teaches the student the basics of classical Hebrew phonology, morphology, and syntax, including the fundamentals of the writing system. The most basic vocabulary will be learned, including the 500 most frequently occurring words in the Hebrew Bible. The student will also be introduced to some of the basics of translation theory.

Course Objectives
By the end of the course, the student should be able to:
correctly pronounce the Hebrew words in a verse of the Bible;
have a basic idea of Hebrew grammar;
know all of the vocabulary occurring 500 or more times in the Hebrew Bible;
know all of the binyanim of the strong verb; and
use commentaries and tools that assume a knowledge of biblical Hebrew.
