Advanced Understanding of Biblical Studies |
|
|
Firstly, for students to gain an
advanced understanding of biblical studies, especially the Old Testament Scriptures, the
roots of the New Testament in the Old Testament, and the Greco-Roman-Judean World of the
first century. Students master the history and geography of the land, and study aspects of
Judaic and Semitic languages, and learn to use the historical, geographical,
archaeological, cultural and linguistic data in the interpretation of Scripture.

Advanced Understanding of the Cultures of the Region |

|
Secondly, to introduce the students to the culture and religions of the
area, especially Judaism, Islam and the variety of Christian traditions, so that they may
gain a better understanding of the interplay of ideologies and customs in the Middle
Eastern historical, political, and social relationships. To achieve this, students are
engaged in the study of modern Hebrew and Arabic; Jewish and Islamic thought, practice,
and history; and they are encouraged to have a dialog with members of the local community.

Thirdly, to guide the students in the process of relating their
academic studies to the biblical perspective, the Christian faith and their vocational
interests.
